The Rhode Island Senate unanimously adopted a resolution celebrating March 2026 as Arts in the Schools Youth Art Month and urging citizens to recognize the work of arts educators, artists and administrators.
President Gallo spoke on the floor welcoming guests from arts organizations and schools, including Seamus Haines of the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts and several teachers and planning-team members. "We take great pride in the fact that our state is a place where creative expression is nurtured and celebrated," she said.
The resolution, read by the clerk, outlines the role of arts learning in fostering school attendance, teamwork, critical thinking, public speaking and cultural competency, and it commends a recent public process by the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts to revise grant and education application criteria. The measure directs the secretary of state to transmit a duly certified copy to the State Council on the Arts.
The measure was moved for passage on the Senate floor and adopted by voice vote with no recorded opposition. Guests were recognized on the floor after adoption.
