Commission presses staff for zoning map and vacant-properties list; demolition planning limited by funding

Commissioners used the Feb. 3 meeting to press City staff for an interactive zoning map and information about vacant properties and demolition scheduling.
Commissioner Michael Grandinetti said he first requested a zoning map in August and was promised a December delivery; Economic Development Director John Rutledge said the zoning data exists in the GIS but the platform is not active and training remains to be completed. Rutledge suggested the map could go live after the city’s new website is launched and said staff hoped for a March target but could not promise a date.
Grandinetti asked for a list of vacant properties; Residential Construction Coordinator Dave Williams said he did not have an exact number but thought there were more than 500 vacant properties. City Manager Art Martynuska said three demolitions were currently scheduled for 2026 but cautioned the number depends on available funding; he offered to provide a bar chart and schedule for the map rollout and to bring a list of code violations for commissioner review.
What’s next: Rutledge will circulate the comprehensive-plan comments schedule (comments due Feb. 6, 2026) and will work on providing a schedule and chart for the GIS/zoning map rollout and a vacant-properties list as staff data and funding allow.
