Treasure County commissioners approve lifting Stage 1 fire restrictions

The Treasure County Commissioners voted to lift Stage 1 fire restrictions after a discussion about local conditions, neighboring counties’ actions and response capacity. Commissioner (S1) moved to sign the resolution; Commissioner (S4) seconded it and the board approved the measure by voice vote.

Staff member (S3) summarized regional steps, noting that “All the other counties are coming off” and that BLM and adjacent counties were also lifting restrictions. Agency official (S5) told the board he had discussed local readiness with a colleague named David and said, “Between me and David, I think we'll be good to come off now.”

Commissioners weighed the main risks that remain if restrictions are lifted, notably hunting-season ignitions. Chair (S2) asked how DNR and Fish and Game were positioned; staff said neighboring jurisdictions were also lifting restrictions and that many hunting areas are managed with block-management and guides. Agency official (S5) recommended keeping an eye on hunters and said if hunters present an elevated risk the county could maintain targeted restrictions.

The board clarified that the county is coordinating with other response partners and that personnel availability had improved, reducing operational risk. Following the comments, Commissioner (S1) moved to sign the resolution to lift Stage 1 restrictions. Commissioner (S4) seconded and the board approved the motion by voice vote.

The action is procedural: staff will continue to monitor conditions and will revisit restrictions if fire behavior, staffing or weather require it.
