Flat Rock council approves amended agenda, schedules June 13 public hearing on FY 2024-25 budget

The Village of Flat Rock council approved an amended agenda at its June 3, 2024, agenda workshop and set a public hearing on Ordinance No. 126, the proposed fiscal year 2024-25 budget, for the council meeting on June 13.
Budget Officer Toner told the council that proposed Ordinance No. 126 — the FY 2024-25 budget — has been prepared and will be the subject of the public hearing on June 13. The agenda was amended before approval to add Old Business Item KORUS #7 (potential LDO changes) and New Business Items: Board of Adjustment appointments and staff shirts. Council Member Gregory moved to approve the agenda as amended; Vice Mayor Coletta seconded and the motion carried by unanimous vote.
Village Administrator Christie said she has received bridge plans for the Park and will review them before bringing recommendations to the council. Christie also said she participated in the hiring process last week for a new town manager for nearby Mills River.
Vice Mayor Coletta updated the council on transportation planning, saying the N.C. Department of Transportation is reviewing its 7.0 process for the next round of road projects and that the Henderson County Transportation Advisory Committee (HCTAC) will meet at 3 p.m. to set county priorities. Coletta said the region is projected to show a net balance of minus $191 million through 2035.
Council Member Gregory reported that the village’s annual Ice Cream Social on June 1 was a "huge success," and Council Member Jeter commended Gregory’s leadership of the event. Mayor Nick Weedman reported that current-year property tax collections are 100% collected except for a foreclosure property in Kenmure. Vice Mayor Coletta noted that the Historic Beaumont home was purchased last Friday by two owners.
Mayor Weedman also mentioned that a 10-acre parcel across Greenville Highway from St. John in the Wilderness Church has been sold; the new owner intends to build a single-family residence rather than subdivide the land.
The workshop, which began at 9:30 a.m., concluded when Vice Mayor Coletta moved to adjourn at 10:00 a.m.; Council Member Gregory seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Agenda items set for the June 13 council meeting include the public hearing on Ordinance No. 126 (FY 2024-25 budget), the potential LDO changes listed as KORUS #7 under Old Business, Board of Adjustment appointments, and a discussion of staff shirts. No votes on the budget or the LDO changes were taken at the workshop.
