Burbank School Board refuses to concur with two teacher resignations after public comment on turnover

The Board of Education of Burbank School District No. 111 met in a special session July 30 and unanimously adopted resolutions refusing to concur with the resignations of two teachers, the board president said.
President Marissa Swistowicz called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and Secretary Agnieszka Dabrowski completed roll call, which recorded seven board members present and administrators Dr. Franzy Fleck and Pamela Lindemann in attendance.
A resident, Donna Kriegseis, spoke during public comment that the district appears to have a high rate of staff turnover, saying EC/PreK staff are already leaving and that recent departures force the district to "scrape the bottom of the barrel," and referenced a letter she received from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). The board did not record a response to the public comment in the minutes.
Vice President Thomas Jansen moved and Member Jeniz Greene seconded a resolution "confirming refusal to concur with the resignation of Kasey Hayes, Art Teacher." The roll call vote recorded the following ayes: Gregory Komperda, Agnieszka Dabrowski, John Schuetz, Jeniz Greene, Marissa Swistowicz, Jessica Thomas and Thomas Jansen; no nays were recorded. The motion carried.
Jansen then moved and Greene seconded a similar resolution "confirming refusal to concur with the resignation of Melissa Alonso, 6th Grade ELA Teacher." The roll call again recorded the same seven members as ayes; the motion carried.
During the meeting Vice President Jansen moved and Member John Schuetz seconded to add the Burbank Chamber of Commerce to the next board meeting agenda; the motion passed on a unanimous roll call. Vice President Jansen moved to adjourn, Member Gregory Komperda seconded, and President Swistowicz adjourned the meeting at 6:04 p.m.
The board minutes do not record additional discussion, reasons for the board's refusals, any staff responses, or next procedural steps for the two personnel matters beyond adoption of the resolutions.
