Milan council hears parade, road and community updates; DDA representative provides public comment

At the Dec. 2 Milan City Council meeting, City Administrator Jim Lancaster reported on road-construction updates affecting the city. Deputy Chief Nieman cautioned residents to be careful during the upcoming Holiday Parade and urged everyone to follow safety guidance. MIS/Communications Director Hanna Massouh outlined planned improvements for Channel 18.
Mayor Pro-Tem Wayne thanked volunteers who supported Small Business Saturday, reiterated parade-safety points, and described changes to the parade route for the upcoming event. Councilmember Kofflin reminded residents that Dec. 1 is “Giving Tuesday” (recorded as the day of the meeting) and promoted a Washtenaw County recycling event set for Jan. 23, 2026, where public comment will be welcomed. Councilmember Snyder announced that the Milan Arts Council convened last month and invited the public to its next meeting on Dec. 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the Riverbank Center. Councilmember Kerkes thanked Milan DPW for snow removal after an unexpected event; Councilmember Thompson praised downtown holiday decorations. Mayor Ed Kolar reminded residents that DPW is still picking up leaves and encouraged attendance at the Holiday Parade and Santa’s appearance.
During the public comment period, non-resident Carrie Ritchie spoke on behalf of the Downtown Development Authority; Troy Bailey also provided comments (the minutes do not record the substance of his remarks). No resident speakers were recorded during the meeting’s public-comment period.
The council set its next regular meeting for Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025. The meeting adjourned at 7:28 p.m.
