Flat Rock council formally approves park bridge contract; funding identified

Mayor Nick Weedman presided over the Village of Flat Rock agenda workshop on Sept. 3, 2024, where council members unanimously approved a construction contract with Enterprise G Inc. for new park bridges. Village Administrator Christie asked the council to formalize a contract that members had informally approved at the end of August; Mayor Weedman moved the formal approval and Vice Mayor Coletta seconded, and the motion carried by unanimous vote.
Council Member Toner told colleagues that more than $100,000 from the Park Foundation together with $115,174 in ARP funds will cover the cost of the Dye Creek bridges, providing a funding path for the project. Council Member Carpenter also reported Park Commission activity, including a planned review of Ordinance No. 91 (Park rules and regulations), exploration of navigation apps for visually impaired visitors, and programing that includes a bird‑watching tour on Sept. 15. Park visitation figures cited at the meeting were 18,158 vehicles in July (about 586 cars per day), rising to roughly 625 cars per day as of Aug. 21, 2024.
The council’s action was procedural but moves a previously discussed infrastructure project into contract stage and pairs that approval with identified local funding. The council did not set a construction start date during the workshop. The meeting continued with additional administrative and community updates and adjourned at 10:13 a.m.
