Residents complain of two-year delay in Cameron Heights sewer project; city says state budget holds funds

City Manager Dennis Baxley responded that the project’s funds are "held up in Raleigh with the approval of the current budget," saying staff made a technical correction to the grant wording and returned it to the state. "The City of Raeford is at a standstill until the budget is passed and the funds are released," Baxley said. He asked residents to send him a list of email addresses to receive updates.
Karen McLean echoed Hill’s concerns, saying she was also unhappy with the length of the delay and requesting the same email updates for neighbors.
No formal council action was taken on the Cameron Heights matter at the special meeting. Council members recorded the residents’ requests and directed the manager to collect contact information for updates. The city did not set a timeline for when the state would release funds; that depends on the state budget process in Raleigh.
