Burbank SD 111 unveils 150th-anniversary logos and previews fall programs and training

Burbank School District No. 111 unveiled new, cohesive school logos and mascots July 23 as part of a 150th-anniversary update and provided a series of operational and programmatic updates ahead of the 2025–26 school year.
Ms. Mueller presented the new logos and mascots, saying the designs incorporate feedback from each school and are grade-level appropriate. Administrators reported program and operational preparation: Director of Curriculum & Instruction Michaela Faust said more than 40 teachers attended a summer planning day for the new English language arts program and over 200 students are participating in summer school, enrichment and Extended School Year programs.
Director Kristin Welsh reported 175 students had been registered for a preschool screening to enroll children who turned three over the summer, and said multicultural read-alouds were being ordered to support monthly topics. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Sandra Hock outlined special education preparations including expanded Teach Town at McCord Early Learning Center and scheduled IEP orientation for new special education staff. Health Services Director Laura Strepek reported ordering AED and EMS supplies, drafting cardiac and CPR plans, and scheduling diabetes education events with Advocate Children's Hospital.
Facilities and technology updates included tuckpointing, concrete work, flooring, new water fountains and playground equipment at McCord, projector and camera upgrades and device setup in preparation for August roster/start dates. The district also plans staff trainings in verbal de-escalation and crisis-team processes and will host a Back to School Rally on Aug. 23 and band registration events later in August.
What happens next: Teachers are to be invited back into buildings beginning Aug. 1 for classroom setup; the district will continue training and final preparations through the start of the school year on Aug. 18.
