Mayor Ed Kolar told the City Council on March 3 that he and Officer Sean Meyer plan to travel to Lansing next Monday with Reggie Miller to request $700,000 from the state Appropriations Committee to purchase a fire truck for the Milan Fire Department.
"...will be going to Lansing next Monday with Reggie Miller to plead and, hopefully, convince the Appropriations Committee to grant the Milan Fire Department $700,000.00 for a Fire Truck," Kolar said in the meeting minutes. The minutes record the announcement under the mayor and staff reports portion of the agenda; the city council did not vote on a local appropriation at that time.
The minutes do not specify whether the mayor's visit is part of a larger appropriations package or whether the city has submitted formal grant or budget documentation to the state. No guaranteed funding was recorded in the minutes; any award would be subject to the Michigan Legislature’s appropriations process and the state committee’s decision.
Kolar also said he will invite the Milan girls bowling state champions to the next council meeting to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. The council adjourned at 7:42 p.m.
