Clovis Unified spotlights student mental health efforts and honors long‑serving school bus drivers

District mental‑health staff and transportation leaders used the April 23 Governing Board meeting to highlight student supports and to recognize employees for long service and safety.
Lead Psychologist David Weber, Psy.D., and Teacher on Special Assignment Derrick Davis presented an annual Mental Health Awareness Month briefing and introduced Baylee McPherson from Clovis West High School as the Reggie McLean Heart of Peer Counseling Award winner. The presentation outlined supports available through the District's Comprehensive Wellness Project (written report provided to the Board).
Director of Transportation Steven Mirelez, joined by California Highway Patrol Officer Albert Mata, presented the 2025 California Highway Patrol School Bus Driver Safety Awards. The Board recognized drivers who achieved milestone safe‑driving records: a group at five consecutive years, several at 10 consecutive years, one driver at 15 consecutive years, and one at 25 consecutive years. Names awarded were read into the record by the presenters.
The Board adopted Resolution No. 4042 recognizing May 2025 as National Mental Health Awareness Month in the District.
