During its March 4 meeting the Jackson County Board of Commissioners held the first reading of Ordinance No. 2026-1, a proposed minor comprehensive plan map and zoning map amendment to change the comprehensive plan designation from residential to industrial and to rezone a 5.7-acre portion of a 16.59-acre parcel at 2000 Rogue River Drive (Township 35 South, Range 1 West, Section 05, Tax Lot 1700) from Rural Residential-5 (RR-5) to Light Industrial (LI).
County Administrator Danny Jordan told the board that the proposed Light Industrial zoning is intended to expand allowable uses on the property to help increase industrial business opportunities in northern Jackson County. The board held only a first reading on March 4 and scheduled the second reading and public hearing for Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. in the Courthouse Auditorium and by audio/videoconference. The transcript notes that, if adopted on March 18, 2026, the ordinance would become effective May 18, 2026.
Commissioner Colleen Roberts moved to approve the first reading and to schedule the second reading and public hearing; Commissioner Randy Sparacino seconded. Commissioners Roberts, Sparacino and Chair Rick Dyer voted aye and the motion passed.
Other actions taken at the meeting included approval of the consent calendar (minutes and routine items) by unanimous vote and recognition of Lis Ovando as the Employee of the Month for the Health and Human Services Department.
