The Select Board opened a public hearing on Jan. 26 to consider amendments to Article 58 of the Salary Administration Plan and draft job descriptions for FY27.
Town Manager Matt Hanson presented the proposed Fiscal Year 2027 classification and wage schedule changes. The draft keeps the same salary ranges in real dollars but adjusts hourly rates to reflect an average 37.5-hour work week. Proposed additions and clarifications include a 'Maintenance Supervisor' position in the library to separate custodial duties from the building superintendent role; a retitling of the Assistant Planner to 'Community Planning & Sustainability Manager' to reflect a broader sustainability and community-engagement role; and creation of a 'Community Planning Administrator' to reflect expanded coordination responsibilities across planning, housing and economic development. The draft also proposes adding a separate 'Licensed' designation to clarify expectations for the Grade 6 Social Worker pay range and adding an 'unlicensed' Social Worker at Grade 5.
Board members asked who would oversee Energy and Sustainability responsibilities. Hanson said multiple departments would be involved but the Town Manager bears primary responsibility for ensuring work is completed; Patricia Fabian, chair of the Energy and Sustainability Committee, said she would like committee representation at planning meetings when sustainability is discussed. After discussion, the board closed the public hearing by a 5-0 vote.
What’s next: The board closed the hearing and may incorporate feedback from staff and committees as it finalizes the bylaw amendment language for the Annual Town Meeting warrant.
