A central-office presenter told the Fayette County Board that two county-funded instructional aide positions are being proposed to support split fourth–fifth grade classes at Ansted Elementary and Divide Elementary.
The presenter reviewed Policy 52-10 and pupil-allowance limits, saying a 4–5 split was created at each school because straight-grade enrollment counts alone would not make full classes. Staff provided enrollment details (for example, Ansted’s fourth- and fifth-grade counts and the makeup of the 4–5 split) and said a proposed aide at each school would come from county funds if the board approves the request at a future meeting.
Board members asked how many split classes exist districtwide; staff listed splits at Valley (two splits), Meadow Bridge (a 1–2 split), New River Primary (K–1), and noted some virtual and self-contained students are not included in the general-education split counts. One board member asked whether the achievement benefit outweighs the county cost; staff said the proposed positions are intended as instructional support and emphasized the request is more limited than prior years.
The presenter said the staffing proposal will appear on the next board agenda for formal approval and that the district will continue to monitor enrollment and impact of the positions.
