Miller elected council president; council approves 2026 slate of appointments

At its Jan. 6 meeting the Columbus Common Council elected Frank Miller as Council President and Tom Dell as Vice President for calendar year 2026 by unanimous roll call votes.
Councilor Kent Anderson nominated the leadership slate; Councilor Josh Burnett seconded the motion. The roll call vote recorded nine votes in favor and zero opposed.
President Miller then asked Clerk Luann Weimer to read the council's slate of appointments to boards, commissions and committees for 2026. The slate included several public‑member appointments and council liaisons: Melissa Lin was appointed to the Columbus City Utilities Board (4‑year term), Erin Hawkins to the Commons Board (4‑year term) and Michael Kinder to the Economic Development Commission (2‑year term). Councilor Elaine Hilber moved to approve the appointments; Councilor Jerone Wood seconded. The motion passed by a 9–0 roll call vote.
The council also heard brief standing committee and liaison reports: Councilor Hilber said Winter Markets have been successful and noted the next market on Jan. 17 at the Commons; Councilor Josh Burnett announced Kathy Dell will be recognized in February by the BCSC Education Hall of Fame; Mayor Mary Ferdon announced the Martin Luther King Breakfast on Jan. 19 and the State of the City address on Feb. 10. The meeting adjourned at approximately 6:18 p.m.
