Pottawattamie County Board re-elects Brian Shea as chair, sets 2026 rules and meeting schedule

Brian Shea was elected chair of the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors for 2026 at the Board’s Jan. 2 organizational meeting after District Court Judge Maggie Popp Reyes administered the oath to newly sworn supervisor Keith Jones. Mary Ann Hanusa, the county auditor, temporarily chaired the opening of the votes after her appointment by the Board.
The Board elected Shea to the chair position by roll call and named Tim Wichman chair pro‑tem. The supervisors also adopted Robert’s Rules of Order as the county’s parliamentary procedure where not in conflict with the Iowa Code, and set regular Board sessions for Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m., with authority for the chair to cancel or add meetings with Board approval.
The Board approved routine administrative motions and resolutions, including authorization for the auditor to issue warrants in certain limited circumstances (Resolution No. 01‑2026), and a resolution appointing deputies in county offices (Resolution No. 02‑2026) that listed specific deputy appointments, such as Jamie Behrends as first deputy auditor. The Board also adopted several resolutions delegating responsibilities to the county engineer for road and contract administration and setting taxable values for railroads and pipelines as required for the 2026–2027 tax year.
