Bryce Canyon City Council puts Town Park project on hold after LWCF denial; approves $8,200 sealing bid

At its March 5 meeting, the Bryce Canyon City Council learned its Town Park grant application to the Land and Water Conservation Fund was denied and voted to pause the project while staff reviews the application evaluation and seeks other funding options.
Mayor Shiloh Syrett reported the denial and said the council would examine the evaluation of the LWCF submission to identify areas for improvement before pursuing alternate funding. “We did not receive the grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund,” Mayor Shiloh Syrett said; the council agreed to put the project on hold pending further review and outreach for other funding sources.
The council also received updates on related capital projects. The Shuttle Building enhancement design is expected to be completed in spring. On the Wellness Center, the council was told the quote for the return vent cover remains outstanding; the council did receive a final bid of $1,287.56 from Upper Limit for wall mat covers.
Council members approved a sealing-only bid of $8,200.00 to seal asphalt on Lake View Drive and the Tesla parking stalls; the sealing bid did not include painting. Committee member Mike Stevens moved to approve the sealing bid and Committee member Gary Syrett seconded; the transcript records Committee member Cherrie Tebbs and Committee member Kam Roundy voting yes and indicates the motion carried.
Council members directed staff to report back with the LWCF evaluation review and recommended next steps for funding so the park project can be reconsidered if additional resources are identified.
