Orange Beach fire chief announces ISO Class 1 rating; council congratulates department

The Orange Beach fire chief announced at the June 3 council meeting that the department has earned an Insurance Services Office (ISO) Class 1 rating, a designation the chief said is rare in Alabama and nationwide.
"I am now, per ISO records, the fourteenth Alabama fire chief to get to tell his council that, they have a class 1 rating, which is the best rating," the fire chief told the council, adding that Orange Beach ranked among a few hundred Class 1 departments nationally. The chief said the result reflects five years of documentation and process changes and that the rating could yield insurance benefits for homeowners and property owners.
Council members thanked the chief and staff for their work. The chief credited department personnel and outside partners for helping the city achieve the designation.
The announcement was made during the meeting’s announcements portion; council did not tie the rating to any immediate budget action at the session.
