City administrator briefs Committee of the Whole on $128,000 athletic-complex additions for track coating and parking
Summary
At the Committee of the Whole following the July 1 council meeting, City Administrator Ford Henley presented a request on behalf of the school system for $128,000 in additions to the athletic complex — roughly $100,000 for a track coating to extend life by 5+ years and funds to add 100+ parking spots — and said work would be deferred if storms occur before Aug. 1.

During the Committee of the Whole session immediately following the July 1 regular meeting, City Administrator Ford Henley presented a contingency request from the school system to add two items to the athletic complex project: a track coating estimated to cost about $100,000 that would extend the track’s useful life by roughly five years, and construction of more than 100 adjacent parking spaces. Henley said the total incremental cost for both additions is $128,000 and that the expenditure would remain under the amount the council previously approved for the overall project.
Henley told council members the work is contingent on weather: if a storm occurs before Aug. 1 the work would be deferred. He asked members to review the request ahead of the next meeting and said staff could discuss the details in two weeks.
'This is one of the last things that would happen, and they wouldn't do this if we do have a storm between now and August 1,' Henley said, stressing timing considerations for construction.
The Committee did not take a formal vote on the request during the July 1 session; Henley said staff will bring the item back for further discussion at a future meeting.
