Orange Beach council tables PUD sign amendment, approves budget changes, licenses and public-safety purchases

Orange Beach’s City Council met July 1 and moved a range of routine actions while tabling a proposed change to the city’s PUD sign rules until the next meeting.
The council voted to table the second reading of an ordinance to amend PUD signage standards after brief procedural discussion; a roll call recorded Council members Johnson, Mitchell and Boyd and the mayor as voting “Yes,” with Council members Silvers and Blaylock absent.
The body also approved a fiscal-year 2025 budget amendment, appointed the city clerk to prepare the qualified-voter list for the August 26 municipal election, and named election officers for the same election. The council adopted a resolution appropriating $25,000 to the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber to support community programming.
On procurement, the council authorized several purchases and service agreements by voice vote, including a police vehicle and emergency equipment totaling $61,604.23 and a software-and-hardware package with Flock Group for license-plate recognition cameras for $81,000.
Other routine approvals included one retail common-carrier liquor license for Adventure Cruises, a special-event liquor license for The Wharf for the ASCE Alabama summer meeting, and a restaurant retail liquor license for NAMI Sushi (Canal Road, Suite H). The council also approved technology and services agreements with governmentjobs.com and OpenGov Incorporated, and a professional-services contract with Caroline Grimes for theater direction and stage management assistance.
'We have a number of items today that are primarily housekeeping and procurement,' the presiding official said prior to several unanimous voice votes.
