Milan council passes consent items, hears World Down Syndrome Day remarks and announces Milan Cares cleanup

At its March 18 meeting the Milan City Council approved the consent agenda and accepted several routine items, heard residents speak in recognition of World Down Syndrome Day and neurodiversity, and recorded a $500 donation to the Milan Police Reserves.
The consent agenda included: Parks and Recreation meeting minutes from Feb. 3, 2025; Resolution 2025‑04 recognizing Adventurers Home‑School Association of Milan as a nonprofit eligible for charitable gaming licenses; and Resolution 2025‑02/EOCC setting mayor and council compensation for Jan. 1, 2026 through Dec. 31, 2027. Councilmember Kerkes moved to approve the consent agenda and Councilmember Stafford seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
During the public comment period resident Laura Russeau spoke on behalf of World Down Syndrome Day; Jennifer Barker from Milan Middle School spoke about neurodiversity; Nora Kuzdak also addressed the council. Councilmembers and the mayor thanked speakers for their advocacy and participation.
City Clerk Lavonna Wenzel announced the Milan City General Election candidate filing timeline. Police Chief Tillery publicly thanked the Sons of the American Legion for a $500 donation to the Milan Police Reserves.
Mayor Ed Kolar invited residents to participate in the annual Milan Cares Spring Clean‑up Day on April 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., noting the area covered by volunteers has grown each year. The council adjourned at 7:36 p.m.; the next regular meeting was set for April 1, 2025 (agenda items due March 26).
