City administrators used the April 1 meeting to report several operational updates and to highlight upcoming community events.
City Administrator Jim Lancaster told the council that shifts in congressional spending have put some proposed projects on hold and that at least one project, Second Street, had been dropped from a funding list. Lancaster said he will continue discussions with state representatives (Ms. Dingell and Mr. Peters) to seek restoration of funding. He also said police leadership remains in contact with the FBI regarding the city’s shooting range agreement.
Police Chief Don Tillery presented a promotion ceremony elevating Officer Cody Straits to sergeant; Mayor Ed Kolar and councilmembers congratulated Straits on the promotion.
Clerk Lavonna Wenzel announced that candidate packets for the Milan City General Election are available for pickup. IT Director Hanna Massouh said the city’s .gov domain migration will begin soon. Community Engagement Director Jill Tewsley noted that the Spring Milan Connection newsletter is available and promoted an Easter Egg Hunt on April 12 (tickets $5) and a Moving Milan Forward Earth Day event on April 27. Councilmember Stafford also invited residents to the Milan Cares clean‑up day and other community events.
During the second public comment period Carrie Ritchie, speaking for the Milan Youth League and the Milan DDA, promoted 'Wine Walk' tickets available April 26 at 3:00 p.m. The minutes also record a comment from Wendy Albers (typed as 'Wendy Alber' in one line); the minutes do not provide the content of her remarks.
The council set its next regular meeting for April 15, 2025, and adjourned at 8:17 p.m.
