The Milan City Council on Feb. 18 unanimously approved several contracts covering wastewater system improvements and park projects, including a $2,750,000 award to Monroe Plumbing and Heating Company for upgrades at the wastewater treatment plant.
Council approved a three-year contract with NutiGro Environmental for the city’s biosolids land application process. The council also approved a $625,842.00 bid to AAA Underground for site work at Wilson Park and a $350,000 contract with Penchura LLC for playground work at Wilson Park; both Wilson Park awards were approved contingent on final approval from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR).
Councilmember Snyder moved to approve the recommended bid for the wastewater plant and Councilmember Stafford seconded. For the NutiGro contract, Councilmember Kerkes moved and Councilmember Kofflin seconded. The AAA Underground and Penchura LLC motions were moved and seconded by the members noted in the meeting minutes; each motion carried unanimously. Six council officials were recorded as present and voting; one councilmember (Thompson) was excused.
The council also voted to pay bills and payroll totaling $354,962.69 during the same meeting.
City Administrator Jim Lancaster thanked Jennifer and Marcus with OHM for their work and quick turnaround on the projects approved that evening. The awarded contracts mark a step toward implementing plans discussed in previous meetings and will move forward as the MDNR and other required agencies complete any outstanding approvals.
The council set its next regular meeting for March 4, 2025. The meeting adjourned at 7:36 p.m.
