The Deptford Township Board of Education approved a package of policy updates during its July 15 meeting, moving multiple equity and related items to final adoption after second readings.
The board voted, on a motion by Dr. Frank Scambia seconded by Milton Corsey, to approve second readings for Policy #1140 (Educational Equity Policies/Affirmative Action), #1523 (Comprehensive Equity Plan), #1530 (Equal Employment Opportunities), #1550 (Equal Employment/Anti-Discrimination Practices), #2260 (Equity in School and Classroom Practices), #2423 (Bilingual Education), #2520 (Instructional Supplies), #2622 (Student Assessment), #5512 (Harassment, Intimidation, or Bullying), #5541 (Anti-Hazing) and #5750 (Equitable Education Opportunity), among others. The motion carried on a roll call vote recorded as 8-0.
The board also approved a first reading for Policy #2361 (Acceptable Use of Computer Network/Computers and Resources), which will return for a second reading and potential adoption at a later meeting.
Superintendent Kevin Kanauss recommended the items; committee chair updates earlier in the agenda had listed Policy as one of the committee report topics. No public comments were recorded specifically on the policy package during the agenda-only public portion.
The approvals put the district’s written equity and student-assessment practices in formal policy alignment and schedule the acceptable-use policy for the next step in the district review process.
