Community Engagement Director Jill Tewsley summarized results of a Milan Park and Recreation Commission survey at the Oct. 7 meeting, reporting that residents commonly requested a community pool, improved park advertising, and better connections among park trails.
Tewsley said those items emerged as recurring priorities from the survey and recommended they inform forthcoming Parks & Recreation planning. Councilmembers acknowledged the findings during discussion and asked staff to consider the priorities in future work plans.
The council also discussed which historical date to use for Milan’s bicentennial celebration. Tewsley noted two significant years in Milan history — 1830 (John Marvin’s arrival) and 1885 (establishment as a village) — and asked whether to celebrate in 2030 or 2085. The council decided to mark the bicentennial in 2030 and directed Tewsley to begin planning the observance.
Tewsley later reminded the public of community events including the Wilson Park grand opening and a senior casino bus trip for which 17 tickets remained.
Council members’ remarks at the meeting included local event updates and business openings; no formal votes were needed to accept the survey presentation or to select the bicentennial year beyond the council’s direction to staff to proceed with planning.
