The Milan City Council voted 5–1 on Oct. 7 to set a public hearing on whether to move odd-year city elections to coincide with even-year state and federal elections.
Councilmember Thompson moved to set the hearing and Councilmember Stafford seconded; the motion carried with five ayes, one nay and one member absent. Clerk Lavonna Wenzel reminded residents that the public hearing is scheduled for Oct. 21 and that the agenda submission deadline is Oct. 15.
The resolution (2025-13) directs staff to convene a public hearing so electors can comment on the proposal. Council did not take a final vote on changing the city election calendar at the Oct. 7 meeting; the item was scheduled for public input prior to any decision.
Council discussion on Oct. 7 focused on setting the hearing and ensuring a transparent comment process. Wenzel’s announcement closed the night’s discussion, noting how residents can weigh in at the Oct. 21 session.
