Deptford board signs off on hires, retirements and a new permanent substitute‑custodian role

Approved departures included the resignations of bus driver Angel Figueroa (effective Dec. 5, 2025) and paraprofessional Ashley Baresich (effective Dec. 18, 2025), and retirements including bus driver Vivian Germscheid (effective Jan. 1, 2026) and teacher Jennifer Devecchio (effective July 1, 2026). The board also approved multiple leaves of absence (bonding, FMLA and intermittent caregiver/medical leaves) across district staff.
The board approved a slate of hires and long‑term substitutes, covering elementary and secondary classroom roles, special education supports and transportation aides. Among listed hires was Terri Schultz as Business Office Generalist at a prorated salary of $70,000, pending required clearances. The minutes also show a set of substitute teachers to be hired for the 2025‑26 school year pending criminal background clearance.
As part of personnel 'Other' actions, the board created a new Permanent Substitute Custodian position for increased maintenance coverage—two positions, maximum 28 hours per week, at $18 per hour. The board also approved coaching assignments (including Montrey Wright as head football coach for 2026‑27), stipends, volunteer appointments and extra compensation for administrative coverage.
On student items, the board approved Deptford High School attendance recovery sessions with a $30 daily student charge and staffing ratios of one staff member per 10 students; fees for students eligible for free/reduced lunch will be adjusted. The board also approved field trips, district assemblies and multiple out‑of‑district tuition contracts and home‑instruction placements with specified rates.
Most personnel and student motions passed unanimously; the minutes record that two specific employment items (items 4l and 4n in the employment section) were approved on a roll call of 8‑0‑1 with Dr. Carol Gioia abstaining. The board entered closed session later in the evening and returned before adjourning.
