Taylor council approves reappointments, contracts and schedules budget hearing

Taylor’s City Council on Feb. 17 approved a slate of routine items, including reappointments to the city’s Museum Commission, multiple vendor contracts and a public hearing date for the upcoming fiscal-year budget.
Mayor Wooley presented Item 5.1, a motion to reappoint Ronald Bentley and Nick Dromachechina to the Museum Commission for three-year terms through Feb. 17, 2029; a councilmember moved the measure and it passed by voice vote. "Item 5.1 is a motion to approve the reappointments of Ronald Bentley and Nick Dromachechina to the Museum Commission for a 3 year term to expire on 02/17/2029," the mayor told the council during the mayor’s communication.
The council approved the consent agenda and several individual contracts: issuance of amusement device permits to Kudos Taproom and Fieldhouse under the City of Taylor Code of Ordinances; an increased blanket purchase order authority for MedTech Resources by $20,000 to cover unanticipated medical supplies for the fire department’s ALS transport account; a low-bid contract for two electric vehicle battery chargers (not to exceed $5,173) funded by the Community Energy Management Grant; and a CivicPlus contract to add DAC Access and ADA-related website components (total not to exceed $28,001.35) funded from the General Fund Administration account.
On procurement for public safety, council approved payment to Michigan Police Training for commercial-vehicle enforcement training for two officers (not to exceed $4,370) from the Act 302 Police Training Fund and renewed law-enforcement accreditation module subscriptions through Lexipool (about $31,300) from police contractual-service funds.
The council also authorized Hennessy Engineering for community development planning support services (not to exceed $26,700), approved attendance for Department of Public Works staff at the American Public Works Association Great Lakes Expo (not to exceed $6,700), and engaged Miller Canfield for bond-related post-issuance services with contingency fees tied to bond size (the measure authorized a contingency cap read into the record). Council separately approved engagement with PFM Financial Advisors to provide advisory services related to proposed capital improvement bonds; fee language was read into the record.
Finally, the council set a public hearing for the proposed fiscal-year 02/2027 budget for April 23, 2026 at 6:30 p.m.; the property millage rate to support the budget will be part of that hearing.
All measures recorded in the meeting were approved by voice vote. Where council discussion occurred, staff or relevant department representatives provided brief explanations for the votes; for example, the deputy fire chief explained the MedTech funds would cover unanticipated medical-supply usage from emergency runs and confirmed the action represented an internal transfer rather than a net budget increase.
