The Eagan City Council adopted an amendment to City Code Chapter 10 on Dec. 2 to change the dog licensing period. Under the amendment, a dog license will be valid for two years measured from the date of issuance rather than expiring on a fixed even‑year date.
City staff said the current code’s fixed expiration date deterred compliance and that the two‑year rolling period is intended as a housekeeping change to make licensing easier for residents and staff. Parks and Recreation Director Andrew Pimentel was available for questions but no public comments were offered on the ordinance change. Councilmember Fields moved approval and the ordinance amendment passed.
The change is administrative in nature and city staff will update license forms and online guidance to reflect the new two‑year issuance model.
