Interim public services director seeks $486,115 design authorization for Tamarac Park track and multipurpose center

Earl Henry, interim director of public services, told staff during a Feb. 9 agenda review that the city will ask the commission to authorize task authorization No. 20D to hire Carnahan, Procter and Cross to design a replacement 400-meter track and multipurpose center at Tamarac Park. "It is for Carnahan, Procter and Cross to provide design services for the Tamarac Park 400 meter track and multipurpose center replacement," Henry said.

Henry said the $486,115 request would cover conceptual services, a feasibility report, design documents and bidding assistance, and that the initial work would determine whether the track can be accommodated in the present location. "The initial task will be to fit the track," he said; if the track fits the site, staff would advance the project to full design and eventual construction procurement.

Henry described the scope as including review of the entire site — the track footprint, the parking lot and the multipurpose center — so the facility and parking can support the proposed updates and possible new uses. He noted the proposed consultant team has about 40 years of experience designing tracks and recreational facilities.

The item is slated for the commission meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 11, where staff will present the proposal. The Feb. 9 review did not include a formal motion or vote; a final authorization or contract award would require action by the commission at the public meeting.
