Eagan council approves vacation of remnant Meadowview Road right-of-way

The Eagan City Council on Feb. 2 approved a petition to vacate excess right-of-way and a private ingress/egress easement connected with Meadowview Road and Alexander Road to facilitate a property sale.
City Administrator Anna Miller introduced the item and said legal notices had been published and sent to affected properties and that no objections had been received. Public Works Director Mathis showed maps and explained that the right-of-way is a remnant from a previous cul-de-sac and that some associated private utility easements were identified as unnecessary for public use.
Mathis told the council the owner asked for the vacation to clear title ahead of sale; he said staff will return for a subsequent hearing to address a few additional easements related to the same parcel. Council member Bakken asked whether only the southern remnant of the court remained under easement; Mathis confirmed the shaded portion in the materials constituted the vacated remnant and explained why earlier north portions had been released.
Council member Fields moved to close the public hearing and approve the vacation on Lot 1, Block 1 (Eagan Business Commons); the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
What’s next: The council’s approval clears the identified remnant right-of-way for the pending property transaction; staff said additional easement items may return to council in future meetings.
