Blaine holds first readings on three rezonings and annual zoning-code updates; second readings set for Dec. 15

Development Director Selman presented four items as first readings. The first rezoning concerns three EDA-owned parcels at 90th Lane and University Avenue: the request is to rezone from County Road Mixed Use to Development Flex to allow four twin homes (eight units) and three detached villas; the planning commission recommended approval and the council held the first reading with second reading and preliminary-plat consideration set for Dec. 15.
The second first reading is a rezoning for 8550 Van Buren Street from mixed use to R1 single-family residential to permit construction of one single-family home; the planning commission recommended approval and the second reading is scheduled for Dec. 15.
The third first reading would rezone 8501 Old West 35W Service Drive from B2 Community Commercial to I1 Light Industrial; planning commission recommended approval and the item will return for a second reading Dec. 15.
Finally, Selman introduced annual zoning-code updates to modernize contractor registration, manufactured-home standards, electric-vehicle charging-station standards, indoor cannabis cultivation and sign-code organization. Selman said the planning commission did not recommend approval of the code updates at that time; the council held the first reading and will consider the second reading on Dec. 15.
No final votes were taken on these items at the Dec. 1 meeting; each will return to council for a second reading and possible action on Dec. 15.
