Blaine honors its state-champion boys cross-country team

BLAINE, Minn. — The Blaine City Council honored the Blaine High School boys varsity cross-country team on Nov. 17 with an official proclamation celebrating the program’s first-ever MSHSL Class 3A state championship.
Mayor Sanders read the proclamation noting the team’s Nov. 1 victory at the MSHSL Class 3A state meet at LeBosa Golf Course in Falcon Heights, recording a team score of 77 and finishing 25 points ahead of Wayzata. The proclamation named head coaches Sean Everson and Bridal Otto and praised the athletes’ dedication and community representation.
The team’s coach thanked the council and introduced players and alternates, including Kaz Pyszka and Reese Miller; runners Elijah Thomas, Austin Matrias, Henry Meeberg, Alaric Burrows, Israel Suleangaini, David Meeberg and Jack Zellmer. "These 9 kids are not just great athletes but they're great students as well," the coach said, noting their classroom GPAs and character.
Senior captain Lehi Burrows, who identified himself at the podium, said he was "extremely grateful" to represent his community and thanked teammates and coaches for the season.
The council congratulated the team, invited the athletes to pose for a photo and noted pride in local student-athletes’ accomplishments.
