Parks and Recreation Director Kreger told the council Jefferson Park’s equipment dates to the 1970s and many parts are beyond warranty and repair; staff conducted outreach and resident votes on color and design. Kreger said national safety standards require expanded fall zones that affect equipment layout and explained that replacing old plastic curbing and worn parts reduces ongoing maintenance headaches.
Council discussion included residents’ preference for preserving larger older structures versus investing in new, safer equipment. Council Member Mesolia urged restraint given other fiscal pressures and questioned whether spot repairs could extend the life of existing equipment, but the council approved the purchase and installation.
The approved not-to-exceed amount is $115,000; staff said the actual project cost is about $114,097 and will be administered by Parks & Recreation.
