Board hears baseball-complex upgrades, recent events and hire of new recreation programmer

Staff reported that new sports lighting at the Blaine Baseball Complex met specifications, trail and ADA work is under way, volunteers removed worn windscreens, recent events drew large attendance and the department hired Liz Reinders as rec programmer.
Jerome, the parks staff member, updated the board on park maintenance and events. He said the contractor for the Blaine Baseball Complex installed lighting and conducted night-time light-meter testing; results met the project specifications.
"Everything met the specifications that were supposed to be met by the contractor," Jerome said about the lighting tests. He also described trail and concrete work at the complex (concrete pads for bleachers and ADA hardware), restroom reconfiguration and new adult changing tables obtained through an Anoka County grant.
Jerome noted volunteers removed old windscreens at the complex and staff plan to leave the outfield visually open to allow spectators to see other games. He also recapped community events: Oktoberfest drew about 3,000 attendees, a senior 'liver and onions' luncheon served about 200 people (a record) and a flashlight pumpkin hunt engaged roughly 120 children and families.
Finally, Jerome announced the hire of Liz Reinders as the department's new recreation programmer. Reinders, who previously worked three years in Bemidji and managed community gardens, will take responsibility for programming, special events and the community garden program in Blaine.
No formal actions were required on these updates; staff asked the board to note the progress and volunteer contributions.
