Tourist Commission adopts new marketing grant policy, authorizes director to edit; approves water-well repairs

The Jefferson Davis Parish Tourist Commission voted unanimously Dec. 9 to discontinue its existing marketing grant policy, adopt a new policy presented by Director Carter Prejean, and authorize Prejean to make edits to that policy without returning to the Tourist Commission Board for approval.

The motion to replace the policy was moved by Ronnie Petree and seconded by Kayla Doga, and the board approved it unanimously. Director Carter Prejean presented the new policy during the Old Business portion of the meeting and was explicitly authorized by the motion to finalize edits as needed.

At the same meeting the board approved a quote from Maxim's Water Service for repairs to a water well in the amount of $14,487.00. The motion to approve the quote passed unanimously. The board recommended that Mayor Guinn provide a written offer to stock the pond with brim and bass if the Tourist Commission pays for the repair work.

A separate motion by Jeremy Doucet to change the regular meeting time from noon to 7:30 a.m. on the second Tuesday of each month failed for lack of a second and therefore did not advance.

The commission also approved routine procedural items earlier in the meeting, including the Dec. 9 agenda and minutes of Oct. 21 and Nov. 14, 2025, and the September 2025 financial report; the October 2025 report was not available at the meeting.

The commission adjourned following announcements about the next meeting and required ethics training.
