At its July 8 meeting, the Jefferson Davis Parish Tourist Commission heard a marketing report from Marketing/Communications Director Macey Guidry Cormier and a Director’s Report from Carter Prejean covering recent events, grants and exploratory projects.
Corman (Marketing/Communications Director) reported social-media engagement across Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, with materials showing a range of roughly 18,800 to 391,801 views across platforms; she said the commission completed the "Crawfish Crawl" promotion and plans the next feature, "Snocones." Cormier also said the commission was awarded $4,460 through a CMP grant and noted outreach to the Student Youth Travel Association through LTA.
Director Carter Prejean reviewed recent events (Poly in the Park; Coushatta PowWow; Java Joltz market; Red Cardinal market and baking classes; Southern Crumbs classes; Lake Arthur Freedom Fest; Jennings July 4th festivities), said staff submitted a Keep Louisiana Beautiful grant for park signage, and described research visits to Port Wonder, the Lake Charles Children's Museum and the Tupper Museum’s rear section as part of exploratory work on a local children’s museum; he said staff will meet with an architect to pursue the idea.
Staff reported contacting Port Wanderlust Rentals to obtain information about providing kayak rentals at Houssiere's Park or Lake Arthur. Commissioners discussed logistics for an upcoming Stearman event: providing transportation to a local restaurant on Thursday night (pilots to pay for their own meals), hosting a Friday hangar dinner with a commission-provided band (a budget of $500 was mentioned), and increasing banquet ticket prices to cover awards the commission would buy.
The commission did not take additional formal action on these exploratory items at the July 8 meeting; staff were directed to continue planning and to report back to the commission.
