The Jefferson Davis Parish Tourist Commission on Sept. 9 called for volunteers for two large fall events and heard a surprise personnel announcement. Director Carter Prejean said plans for the Stearman event were being finalized and asked for volunteers to help with a banquet on Saturday, Oct. 4, and with daytime duties and food service on Friday, Oct. 3.
Prejean also reported that the Fall Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 1, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. She said gumbo participants will begin cooking at 6:30 a.m., that 10 teams have registered so far, and that the festival will include a petting zoo, a band, children’s games and a pumpkin patch. Festival competition will include a seafood and a non-seafood gumbo category. Prejean asked for additional sponsors and more gumbo teams to register.
Chair Sheila Chapman announced she does not want to be reappointed to the commission when her term ends on Sept. 30, 2025, and said she has notified Lake Arthur Mayor Poncho LeJeune to find a replacement representing Lake Arthur. Kayla Doga confirmed she has agreed to serve another three-year term representing the Hotel/Motel Association; Doga’s term also expires Sept. 30, 2025.
The commission approved routine business at the start of the meeting, including the Sept. 9 agenda and the Aug. 12 minutes. A motion to adjourn was made by Shelby LaFosse, seconded by Kayla Doga, and passed unanimously.
