Venable framed the effort as both an environmental and economic initiative, saying, “Exxon and many other oil and gas companies are looking beyond the environmental impacts of removing CO2 emissions from the atmosphere and focusing on the economics of global demand for low carbon products.”
Duplessis and Venable told commissioners they are conducting outreach and education about CCS and offered to return with technical representatives to answer detailed questions and address concerns that exceed the scope of their presentation. The commission did not take formal action on CCS at this meeting; the exchange was recorded as an informational presentation.
The presentation places CCS on the EDC’s radar for potential future review and local engagement; company representatives and EDC staff identified follow-up as a next step.
