The Jefferson Davis Parish Tourist Commission approved operational rules for this year’s Stearman fly-in, including a $25 registration fee, while declining to cover off-parish transportation costs.
The decision came after a discussion of prior-year expenses and offers from staff to provide in-parish dining alternatives. Chair Sheila Chapman called the meeting to order; commissioners voted unanimously to adopt the fee and related cost decisions. The motion to set a $25 registration fee and to fund port-a-potties and Stearman awards was moved by Jeremy Doucet and seconded by Kayla Doga.
Commissioners emphasized limiting commission expenditures to activities and vendors within Jefferson Davis Parish. Carter Prejean proposed several in-parish dining alternatives after the commission determined that transportation to DI’s Restaurant — located outside the parish — would not be paid by the commission. The minutes record that the Stearman group declined the in-parish offers.
The commission also agreed to reduce the number of T-shirts ordered for the 2025 event because of leftover inventory from prior years; banquet ticket sales will offset banquet food costs. No changes to the event date or venue were recorded in the minutes.
The action was recorded as unanimous; the minutes show no recorded abstentions or recusals. The commission adjourned following remaining agenda business.
