Board recognizes award-winning teachers and staff, and accepts community donations

At its Jan. 12 meeting the New Palestine Community Schools Board recognized multiple staff for recent honors and accepted community donations to school programs and student accounts.
The board recognized Sandra Haney, a New Palestine High School teacher, for receiving the Indiana Department of Education Lifetime Educator Excellence Award. The board also recognized Brenda Sellers for receiving the 2025 Indiana RISE Classified Employee Award and honored Kayleigh Fosnow, New Palestine Elementary School principal, as a 2025 Milken Educator Award recipient.
Director of Finance Sarah Gizzi presented donations accepted by the board: $200 from the New Palestine United Methodist Women’s Group (Sugar Creek Elementary Vision Choir); $678.50 from the New Palestine Education Foundation (SCE staff appreciation); $4,500 from Becovic Management Group (with Dragons Den assistance) to cover deficit meal accounts; $500 from Teresa Mehok to NPHS meal accounts; $2,500 from the Clements Family Foundation to the NPHS wrestling program; $4,000 from Dellen Chevrolet GMC to the NPHS Caring Closet; $150 from Realife Church to NPHS meal accounts; and $1,500 from David & Lisa Post to the NPHS robotics program. The board voted to accept the donations 5-0.
Board members used the comments portion to thank staff and note the district’s community support; Dan Walker offered condolences on the passing of longtime coach James Evans. No public comments on agenda items were recorded.
