Summary
Superintendent Tom Hunter told the board the district will examine pay schedules and may adjust health insurance in the 2027 budget cycle as part of cost-containment efforts; the district also announced a Teacher Appreciation Grant awarding one-time $3,500 stipends to 20 certified teachers.
GREENSBURG, Ind. — Superintendent Tom Hunter told the Greensburg Community Schools Board on Jan. 13 that the district is reviewing Cost Containment Initiatives to address rising expenses and preserve competitiveness of teacher pay.
Hunter said adjustments could be needed for the 2026–27 school year and that health insurance changes may be required in the 2027 budget cycle. He said the district plans to look at current pay schedules district-wide and will consider using employee attrition as one lever to reduce costs while trying to remain competitive on compensation.
As part of teacher support efforts, Hunter told the board a Teacher Appreciation Grant (TAG) application was distributed to all current teachers. The TAG will award a one-time stipend of $3,500 to 20 certified teachers. The selection will be made by the GCS TAG Selection Committee, which the superintendent described as composed of teacher leaders and administrators across the district. The announcement was informational; the transcript does not record a separate board vote on the TAG program.
Hunter also told trustees that administrators are updating the Teacher Evaluation process for 2026–27. He provided the board with a TIF Board request that will be presented on Jan. 21, 2026, for which no board action was recorded at the Jan. 13 meeting.
The board will reconvene Feb. 10, 2026; the district retreat is set for Feb. 21, 2026.
