Trustees adopt ISBA-recommended policy updates, raise fixed-asset threshold to $10,000
Summary
The board approved two ISBA-recommended policy updates: raising the district's fixed-asset accounting threshold from $5,000 to $10,000 and adopting a vacancy-filling policy that follows Indiana law (majority vote within 30 days or circuit court appointment). The vote was 4-0.

The School Town of Speedway board on March 10 adopted two policy updates recommended by the Indiana School Boards Association (ISBA), including a change to the district's fixed-asset accounting threshold and an update to the board vacancy policy.
Staff said the first change increases the per-item minimum cost threshold for recording fixed assets from $5,000 to $10,000. The second policy outlines the process for filling a school board vacancy, following Indiana law: remaining board members must fill a vacancy by majority vote within 30 days, and if the board does not act the circuit court judge appoints a replacement.
A staff member noted the updates were prompted in part by multiple audits the district has undergone this school year. A trustee moved to approve the ISBA policies as presented; another trustee seconded and the board approved both recommendations 4-0.
Why it matters: raising the fixed-asset threshold changes what the district records as capital assets on its books. The vacancy policy formalizes a process required by state law and clarifies timeframes for filling board seats.
