Staff told the board the policy creates a three-tier system: tier 1 gives priority to student athletes and school clubs; tier 2 is for community-based organizations such as youth sports leagues; and tier 3 covers outside organizations when time is available. The policy also adds updated rental fees for tier 3 users and specifies required certificates of insurance to limit district liability, staff said.
"First and foremost, our student athletes have priority along with our clubs from the different schools," a staff member explained during the presentation, noting the policy updates reflect the district's new facilities and practices dating from the 1960s that needed modernization.
A committee member moved to approve the new facility-usage policy, including rules, regulations and fees; the motion was seconded and the board voted 4-0 to adopt the policy.
Why it matters: the policy clarifies who gets priority for limited practice and game times in the new field house, updates fees to ensure the district recovers costs from outside groups, and spells out insurance requirements intended to reduce the district's exposure when non-district organizations use school property.
