Mount Pleasant council hears updates on roads, water restrictions, police staffing and memorial work

During regular reports the Mount Pleasant City Council received a series of operational updates from council members and staff.
Councilman Rondy G. Black said Colter Allen will begin pothole repairs and circulated information on an upcoming road project; he noted a public hearing will be scheduled and that UDOT plans to lower the speed limit near Terrel's to 40 mph effective April 30. Councilman Russell G. Keisel reported that conduit and water lines need to be run for the Veterans Memorial and that holes must be dug for flagpole installation; he said the governor is expected to attend the memorial dedication.
Staff reported that a flash trailer is expected to arrive next week for a Farm Safety event, and that the hydro gearbox remains under repair with possible legal action against the supplier depending on repair outcomes. Colter Allen said he met with Pleasant Creek Irrigation Company and warned that it will likely be a difficult water year; the city plans to implement water restrictions though specifics were not provided in the minutes.
Councilman D. Lynn Beesley said other cities have expressed interest in contracting police services, noted the department will purchase a new vehicle and expects all vehicles to be fully marked by July, and reported Officer Drake Johnson passed the academy and is in field training. Beesley also urged reopening the cemetery restroom and suggested considering dry landscaping and additional graves behind city buildings.
No formal actions were taken during these reports; several items will return to the council as agenda items or be implemented by staff.
