City Manager Dennis Baxley reported the city purchased and delivered supplies to Hillcrest Baptist Church for distribution to Hurricane Helene victims. Councilman Ricky Sandy moved, and the motion was seconded, to make a $5,000 donation to be split between Samaritan’s Purse and N.C. Baptist Men (On Mission); the motion carried unanimously.
Later the council entered executive session for personnel. After returning to open session, council voted to accept the Fire Department Staffing Review (June 2024) prepared by N.C. Fire Chief Consulting, following a recommendation from the firemen’s association.
Why it matters: The donation provides immediate disaster relief support; accepting the staffing review directs the fire department and city staff to consider the consulting recommendations for department staffing and operations.
