Raeford awards $204,191 contract for South Magnolia stormwater improvements

The Raeford City Council voted Dec. 6 to award a contract to Jymco Construction Company to replace stormwater drainage on South Magnolia Street.
City Manager Dennis Baxley told council the work includes demolition and replacement of about 80 linear feet of dual 36-inch reinforced concrete storm drain with new dual 48-inch piping, installation of headwall and endwall, paving of the affected roadway and replacement of affected water and sewer utilities as required. Five bids were received; Jymco submitted the low bid of $188,191, which the manager said includes $13,000 for engineering and $7,000 for construction administration and inspection. Council approved awarding the contract with a total budget authorization of $204,191 to include a $16,000 contingency.
Manager Baxley said the project was originally budgeted using Powell Bill funds but that he is checking whether American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds could be used instead. Councilman John Jordan moved to award the contract; Councilman Charles Allen seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
The city will return contract documents to the mayor for execution and proceed with contract administration and permitting as specified in the bid package.
