Milan City Council approves consent agenda, OKs $402,602.14 in bills

At the Milan City Council's regular meeting on Sept. 3, 2024, Mayor Ed Kolar and the council unanimously approved the meeting agenda and the Aug. 20 meeting minutes, accepted several consent items and authorized payment of bills totaling $402,602.14.
The consent agenda included a "receive and file" for the East Michigan Small Urban 75% plans and approval of a special-event permit for a Community Bike Ride/Fundraiser for Children’s Cancer Research organized by MMF, scheduled for Sept. 14 from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. at Wilson Park. Councilmember Snyder moved to approve the consent agenda; Councilmember Kofflin seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Councilmember Kofflin moved to pay the bills as presented, with Councilmember Thompson seconding; the council voted unanimously to authorize payment of $402,602.14 in bills and payroll. Earlier in the meeting Councilmember Stafford moved to approve the evening’s agenda (seconded by Mayor Pro-Tem Wayne), and Councilmember Snyder moved to approve the Aug. 20 work- and regular-meeting minutes (seconded by Councilmember Stafford); both motions carried unanimously.
City Administrator Jim Lancaster provided updates on multiple grant efforts. Councilmember Kofflin announced a Tire Recycle Day hosted by Moving Milan Forward and Workhorse Realty this Sunday, open to residents and businesses. Mayor Pro-Tem Wayne invited attendees to the Milan DDA Annual Beer Walk. Mayor Ed Kolar noted that DTE will replace city streetlight bulbs and that Lavender Lane has offered to landscape city areas; he also said the council decided to plant a tree in the Lavender Patch in front of the old fire barn in memory of the late Tim Heath.
The council set the next regular meeting for Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024 (agenda submission deadline Sept. 11). The meeting adjourned at 7:24 p.m.
