Milan council adds community survey to update Master Plan, planners to seek resident input

City Administrator Jim Lancaster said the City of Milan will seek broad resident input to inform an update of the city's Master Plan, announcing a community survey that will be distributed through local channels.
Lancaster, joined by Community Engagement Director Jill Tewsley, told the council Dec. 3 that the Master Planning Committee will use a survey to gather priorities and feedback from residents. "We want to make sure resident voices shape the Master Plan," Lancaster said, and the council approved adding a discussion item on the survey to the agenda earlier in the meeting.
Tewsley outlined how the survey will be shared: in the Connections magazine, via the city's Facebook page and website, included with utility bills and available in printed form at City Hall. The council discussed outreach methods to maximize participation and reach residents who may lack regular internet access.
The addition of the survey to the agenda followed a motion by Mayor Pro-Tem Wayne to amend the agenda; the motion passed unanimously. The city did not provide a distribution timeline during the meeting. The next regular council meeting is Dec. 17, 2024; Lancaster indicated the Master Planning Committee will use results from the survey as the committee's next steps once the outreach is complete.
