The Tecumseh City Council on Sept. 2 introduced and approved its 2025–26 budget ordinance, approved a change to the Restricted Funds Base and adopted a property tax resolution.
Council Member Tyler Speckmann moved to introduce an ordinance to adopt the annual appropriation/budget statement, to appropriate sums for necessary expenses and liabilities, and to waive the statutory rule requiring the ordinance to be read by title on three different days; Council Member Lance Beethe seconded the motion. Later, a motion by Travis Goracke, seconded by Lance Beethe, approved final passage of the ordinance and ordered publication in pamphlet form. Voting was unanimous among the five members present; Alicia Brommer was recorded absent.
Separately, the council approved increasing the Restricted Funds Base in the 2025–2026 budget by 1% over the allowable growth percent (motion by Speckmann, second by Goracke) and approved a resolution setting the 2025–2026 property tax request at a different amount than the prior year (motion introduced by Lance Beethe, second by Brian Britt). The transcript does not include the dollar amounts for the property tax request or the full budget totals.
City Clerk noted in the meeting that the city is finishing the budget and will file it with the state; audit work for fiscal years 2024–25 will begin soon. The ordinance and the tax resolution were recorded as approved and will proceed to required publication and filings.
